Miss Claire Sullivan

Sullivan is an American fashion designer who launched her label, Miss Claire Sullivan, in 2021. She has been sewing since she was 7 and making clothes since she was 16. Miss Claire got her start as a co-creative director of the cult fashion label Vaquera, The brand’s mission, is to make “fashion fan fiction” that subverts typical aesthetic storytelling. This is where Miss Claire, with no formal training in fashion, learned to break all the rules. After Vaquera, she worked with the artist Tourmaline to style her video Pollinator. Miss Claire made a custom bulbous white gown with a headpiece covered in fresh flowers. (Pollinator, is now on view at the Whitney Biennial.) It was the starting point from which Miss Claire Sullivan’s custom business effloresced. Her signature looks feel exaggerated and cheeky while remaining tender and soft.  The fabric is draped in ways that makes the garments almost appear to be falling off the body while revealing hints of skin shown in the most unexpected ways. Enter art meets fashion. Sullivan has been worn by Sarah Jessica Parker, Shygirl, Addison Rae, Chloë Sevigny, Zsela, Sarah Paulson, Rachel Zegler, Kylie Jenner, Dua Lipa, Paloma Elsesser, Selena Gomez and Troye Sivan.
