Peter: Dennis, who created Un-Titled Project is someone I know through Malerie (Marder), and we were all very close. He used to live across the street from The Odeon, and he was always just a guy who made things happen. If he decided to do something, he just did it. We've stayed in touch through the years, and I guess he wanted to start a magazine (UTP). and so he did!

Amanda: like it.

I thought the first thing I would ask you about is music, and I've forgotten what you've said, but haven't you been taking music lessons like once a week or something?

Uh, no

No? Haven't you been singing forever?

No

Do you not want to talk about it?

No, it's okay. It's just that I've been talking about it so much recently promoting Les Mis),

Oh, I'm sorry! We can talk about something else.

It's not that. I just know my answer is kind of a bagged answer studied piano from seven to eleven and then switched from piano to voice until I was seventeen, 1 quit when did Marra Mia, but would play guitar every day since was eighteen,

So you're musical

Yeah. I Once bought a Viola and tried playing it.

We bonded over music, so know you're musical.

You gave me a very nice instrument.

Did I?

What?!

I Forgot about that Sarsgaard.

I felt so important!

(laughing) Don't! I buy people instruments all the time. I just think it's the coolest gift to give somebody.

Have you been to Sundance before?

Yeah.

For what, Chloe (her movie with Tulane Moore)

No. It was for Nine Lives with Rodrigo Garcia. It was one of my first movies,

Ya know my mother-in-law's movie is going to be at Sundance, and showing the same day as Lovelace.

That's great! So you have to be there.

Well. Maggie's doing a movie in New Mexico.

During Sundance?

Yeah, so it'll be easy to fly in from there.

You guys don't stop working.

We don't stop working. We don't stop moving

No matter what movie you do you're always the best!

(laughs) According to Amanda's best-o-meter!

I'd Love to be a critic.

Would you really?

Yeah

I feel like I've lost my sense of what's good. I just think I haven't been moved by something in a while.

(playfully) No, it's easy! If someone cries...they're good!

What do you do when you're not working?

I Fill my schedule. In busier when I don't work. Tm starting therapy, and I've been home a lot to see my parents. Allentown (PA) now feels like a normal place to me. It used to feel like a strange land.

Are you digging your New York experience?

I'm digging it!

How do you get around the city?

I walk or ride my bike. I like to walk. It makes the city feel smaller.

Do you ride the subway?

I don't.

Being famous and taking the subway is a commitment. I've been on the subway with some very famous people, and New Yorkers are generally amazing, but all it takes is just one person.

I love riding the Tube when I'm in London

Are you going back to L.A?

Yeah. In there like every three weeks, even if it's just for a couple of days. My sister lives there,

When I'm in L.A. run by your house. I've considered hanging a big scarlet A on your door, or something!

All you need is my code and you can go use my pool.

The Waitress approaches

Waitress: Would you like to order?

Sure. I have a coffee.

Waitress: What kind?

Uh... drip.

I’ll Have a cappuccino.

I keep forgetting it's your birthday. Do you want a piece of cake?

No, thanks. Oh, let me tell you what happened last night! I was at a Hollywood Foreign Press dinner, and I was having to work the room, and I was really nervous, but also very excited because I'm really thrilled about this movie (Les Mis) –

That's a nice feeling, isn't it?

It's the best feeling. I was telling someone recently that I'm so excited to promote something that's actually good. It's really soul destroying when you're promoting something you know sucks or isn't really something you feel is worthy of the attention.

Yeah, It's hard to support a movie you hate! chuckles Done that

Anyway, last night, Hugh (Jackman) took the mic and started singing Happy Birthday to me, and then he gave me a little lap dance.

He’s an awesome MC, Isn't he?

He's the most amazing person on the planet He made me the center of attention.

Do you like being the center of attention?

I didn't think so! But, because it was so positive and everyone was singing, it made me feel amazing. It made me feel they weren't judging anything, and it was just a genuine, celebratory moment.

So, what's next for you?

I'm just trying to do projects that are empowering to me, like Lovelace, Such an interesting woman, such an interesting story. I just hope people don't want to come solely for the pornography aspect.

They won't. They can just turn on their computer for that!
